WORLD’s Stories from the Stage: The Podcast Kicks Off New Season

Stories from the Stage: The Podcast is the perfect salve during these trying times to help restore your faith in both humanity and in the benefit of human connection. Executive produced by Patricia Alvarado Núñez and Liz Cheng, who insist that our commonalities are greater than our differences, the series aims to prove it. The podcast, a companion to the original broadcast and streaming series from WORLD (formerly WORLD Channel), Stories from the Stage, also showcases extraordinary stories told by ordinary people from all walks of life before a live audience.

Season four of the podcast premiered on October 2. “Rebuilding after Cancer,” a special episode for Breast Cancer Awareness, featured three Black women — all breast cancer survivors and advocates — recounting how the disease changed their lives. Their determined (and sometimes hilarious) stories provide a supercharged season kickoff.

After receiving a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer, 25-year Air Force veteran Sheila Marie Johnson is determined to continue her mother’s legacy while forging her own. Also an author, Johnson is the subject of a film God’s Grace: The Sheila Johnson Story, which is available on BET+.

New York City resident and comedy producer Suzette Simon uses her comedic talents to highlight how Black women are disproportionately affected by cancer. Megsie Chase, a blogger and influencer from Atlanta, becomes an advocate after finding out that breast cancer will alter her dream of motherhood.

The season continues with new episodes tied to the weekly Stories from the Stage broadcast series — hosted by humorists and storytellers Theresa Okokon and Wes Hazard — now in its seventh season and airing on Mondays at 9:30pm EST on WORLD, the WORLD YouTube channel, worldchannel.org, and the PBS App. If you miss it on television, Stories from the Stage: The Podcast can be found on WORLD’s YouTube channel, worldchannel.org, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. If you are curious about real life, you will go back to the podcast time after time for deep dives, interviews, and more. —Jean Nash Wells
